In certain women, the natural angle of the vagina can be permanently altered due to the effects of aging and childbirth. This transformation occurs as the perineum, the area between the vaginal opening and the anus, undergoes shortening and flattening. Consequently, the vaginal opening widens, and the angle becomes more horizontal than downward, leading to a loss of stimulation in the G Zone and an overall decrease in sexual satisfaction. Additionally, there may be associated pelvic relaxation or a loss of tone along the length of the vagina.

Traditional vaginoplasty and perineoplasty procedures effectively address this issue by reducing both the internal and external diameters of the vagina. This involves the cosmetic reconstruction of the perineum, resulting in a narrower vaginal barrel and the restoration of the natural angle. Beyond the functional benefits, these procedures offer an aesthetic enhancement, providing the perineum with a more youthful appearance. With a success rate of 95% and positive patient satisfaction, traditional vaginoplasty and perineoplasty are intended to be permanent solutions.

Dr. Marashi was born in Iran in 1979 during the Iranian Revolution. The son of a well-known surgeon, he was introduced to medicine at a young age. Growing up, Dr. Marashi observed the double standard with which women were treated in his country; he was taught that sex was for and about men, and he was treated differently from his sister. He knew this was unfair. When Dr. Marashi moved to the UK and eventually to the US, he assumed that women would not be treated as second-class citizens. He was surprised to find that many were still fighting for sexual equality.

A strong proponent of practicing medicine equitably, Dr. Marashi travels around the globe to help patients in need. Throughout his career, he has helped numerous survivors of female genital mutilation.

Dr. Marashi has spearheaded several initiatives to promote female empowerment. In 2017, he took New York Fashion Week by storm by hosting the first Designer Vagina Fashion Show. This event aimed to normalize conversations about vaginas, eliminate the taboo around female sexuality, and empower women to take charge of their own orgasms. In 2020, he authored A Woman’s Right to Pleasure in collaboration with BlackBook. Through a compilation of art and essays by female-identifying artists, this book aims to destigmatize female sexual pleasure.

Today Dr. Marashi works to destigmatize sexual wellness around the world, and make sexuality an open and honest part of medical education.

The Vagilangelo®

A few years ago, Dr. Marashi faced a common inquiry from his bustling professional patient base in Manhattan, NYC: Was there a minimally invasive option available? Drawing upon decades of expertise and careful consideration, he set out to innovate a solution, resulting in the creation of Vagilangelo®. His objective was straightforward: to devise an office procedure that could be completed in 30 minutes or less with local anesthesia, all while ensuring effectiveness. Dr. Marashi engineered a dual-sound approach, blending biomechanical and biochemical elements, to address the needs of his patients comprehensively.

A Woman's Right to Pleasure

Growing up, I witnessed a culture in which men could do whatever they wanted and nobody would fault them for it. Even my family treated me differently from my sister. But then I began to ask myself, Is this really fair? As I got older, I only saw more clearly how men could have sex without consequence, how boys were congratulated for losing their virginity, while women were told to save themselves for marriage.

Over the next decade, we watched in awe from Iran as Sandra Day O’Connor became America’s first female Supreme Court justice and Sally Ride took off into space. But while mainstream pop culture moments might have projected a seemingly more empowered mind-set, American women were still fighting for sexual equality.

At work, it wasn’t much better. Women were coming to me unsatisfied, embarrassed, and with a general lack of knowledge about their bodies. To this day, I meet many women who are afraid to talk about their needs. I can’t help but ask myself, Why? Why is it that boys are taught about sex and pleasure openly? Why is there an orgasm gap? Why are men blessed with so much freedom, while women are left feeling ashamed, imprisoned, and limited by social, cultural, and religious standards?

My father stressed the idea that surgery is an art. He’d always say:

There are good doctors and there are great doctors. What separates them is that a good doctor knows the book and works according to its rules. A great doctor is innovative. As in art, they try new things, push the limits, and change the way people view the world.

If there’s one thing I have learned from speaking to my patients, it’s that women need to speak up about how they feel, and we need to educate girls from an early age. I want A Woman’s Right To Pleasure to change the way people view female sexuality, desire, and agency to emphasize that every woman has the right to know her body, to love it, and never feel ashamed no matter what.
